Muse
Muse, located in southwestern Glades County, just outside LaBelle in neighboring Hendry County, was largely homesteaded in the early 20th century. Once a prosperous community with its own school and post office, during the Depression it lost most of its population, along with the post office. In more recent years, Muse has become known for its cattle ranches, vegetable farms and sod farms, and has become the leading citrus producing area of Glades County.
Muse is also home to Silver Lake Preserve, a pristine 1,876-acre tract offering a customized hunting program with some of the best year-round native wildlife (alligators, quail, wild hog, and Osceola turkey) opportunities in south Florida. The Silver Lake Lodge, built in the early 1900s, can accommodate ten guests and offers satellite TV and internet access, private bedrooms with bath and a bonfire for socializing.
